The Argo team (plus a ‘traitor’ from another Company) took part in the 10th Annual SUT Pub Quiz, held at Ye Olde Watling pub in the City on Tuesday 18th November. Up against a range of talented teams from the elite of the London subsea engineering community, the Argo team (competing under the banner of ‘The People’s Front of Judea’) raced into an early lead, scoring high marks on their knowledge of current affairs and also bands with American cities in their names. We somehow managed to strengthen our lead as the night wore on, fuelled by Guinness, nachos and some indescribable deep fried things straight out of the “I’m a Celebrity…” jungle. By the last round, our lead was an incredible 4 ½ points, and Emma had the first prize of Terry’s Chocolate Oranges all round well within her grasp. Unfortunately, a last minute piece of inspiration from the Wood, oops sorry, I mean Sidara team, on the life and times of Bruce Willis meant that we were pipped at the post by only ½ point. Rumours that we threw the game at the end to avoid having to host it next year are yet to be proved. Many thanks to Iain Knight and the SUT for organising a great event, Bob Inglis for coming up with a cracking (if at times obscure) set of questions, Phil Bailey for choosing the better team, and Emma for standing in at the last minute.
Having said all that, I personally enjoyed the second prize Freddo bar very much indeed.
