Protection of the Matavén forest in eastern Colombia

As part of our partnership with Ecologi, one of the projects that we fund is a rainforest protection project in Colombia.

Indigenous leaders across five zones came together in December last year for community planning workshops, to decide how carbon revenue gets reinvested into their communities. Right now, 336 indigenous guards ate actively patrolling and protection 1.15 million hectares of the Mataven forest in eastern Colombia.

The programme also funds education for nearly 10,000 children and supports over 10,800 Indigenous women through dedicated empowerment programmes. Around 90% of the project's revenue goes directly back into these Indigenous-led initiatives. Health, education, clean water, food security.

Our support has helped make this possible, but there is much more to do.
