Hydrogen Pipelines

Hydrogen is seen as a key component of the transition to net-zero because it can store and deliver renewable energy. Hydrogen pipelines are expected to play a crucial role in the future energy landscape; hence a robust pipeline network is essential to creating a backbone for hydrogen trade, in the same way that oil and gas pipelines underpin today’s energy system.

Argo Energies has been providing our expertise supporting companies looking to develop hydrogen pipelines for several years, in conjunction with the developing national and international codes and standards. Our most recent projects include:

- Project management team (PMT) for the Front-end engineering & design (FEED) contractor on the 100km hydrogen transportation network for one of the UK’s leading industrial decarbonisation projects. The Hydrogen Pipeline Network provides transportation of hydrogen from the production plant to industrial users and storage caverns. The PMT managed all aspects of the FEED, engineering disciplines and subcontractors, as part of the main contractor’s team, over multiple sites and provided bespoke engineering deliverables to support the project.

- Project management and engineering team undertaking the pre-FEED for the main contractor for the Hydrogen Village Project, transporting hydrogen from the production plant to the village, for the conversion of residential and commercial properties from natural gas to hydrogen.

- Company representatives for the client covering the subsea pipeline, landfall and onshore aspects, from concept through to FEED, for developing medium-term offshore natural gas storage to longer-term hydrogen-ready operation.

- Pipelines technical authority on a framing study focused on the development of a depleted offshore (Celtic Sea) reservoir for seasonal gas storage in two phases, initially for natural gas storage and thereafter for hydrogen storage.

Argo Energies can also provide technical expertise and project management ‘know-how’ by partnering with investors looking to take the first steps in developing their hydrogen infrastructure.
